This summer, our facilities team coordinated upgrades to Rooms 204, 310, and 312, creating model classrooms in which teachers and students can test new classroom furniture. Looking forward to the upgrades on the fourth and fifth floors that will be possible with the campaign, teachers and students will be able to test options that will help us select the furniture that will best support them. While the campaign will support the improvement of the rooms themselves, all furniture, starting with the model classrooms and culminating in new furniture throughout the main building, is being funded through grants, as is the technology that supports the facilitation of learning.
In education today, students shift between collaborative and independent work, and our furniture and learning tools need to be versatile enough to support both with ease, no matter the classroom configuration. In addition to being safer, warmer and more welcoming, our classrooms will be accessible to students with disabilities or injuries. Teacher workspaces will be more mobile and uniform, allowing us to utilize the space in the main building more efficiently.
While we are most excited about improvements to learning spaces, we are also strategically reconfiguring other areas to support a better experience for students and families outside of the classrooms. For example, by moving and changing office spaces, we have made room for our chaplains and expanded Campus Ministry team to enhance the opportunities to grow in their faith, our Safety Manager to keep improving campus safety, and our Assistant Principal for Academics to support ongoing academic improvements. Opening up space in the main building for the Athletic Department will strengthen communication between athletics and academics, better supporting our current and future student athletes. By more effectively utilizing the space that we have, we are also going to be better able to support the work of our students in the Academic Support Center. There, we are creating areas for collaboration between teachers and student support staff with the goal of teaming to support students’ growth.
Much to the benefit of our students, creating spaces for educators, parents, and students to come together in teamwork to support learning and forming the whole person ultimately improves the quality and efficacy all we do at CC in support of our mission.
